Through recent acquisitions Orange and T-Mobile boast the largest customer base in the UK, between the two companies they already supply services to over 30 million people, over half of the UK population.

While the two companies will continue to trade under their own brands, behind the scenes they will operate as one company. Everything Everywhere is the name of the company that runs Orange and T-Mobile, and the company that all 16,500 employees will work for. The company will be officially integrated on July 1.

T-Mobile have teamed up with recycle-more in a bid to encourage recycling on the move.

t-mobile recycle application

Through the T-Mobile application, Recycle Guide, users will be able to find out what they are allowed to recycle as well as locating their nearest recycling points, all on their mobile phone.

T-Mobile collaborated with Valpak Limited, in a scheme which helps over 3,000 large and small UK businesses to comply with recycling legislation, to develop this innovative mobile application. Valpak Limited owns the largest recycling information database in the UK, which is available to consumers via their consumer facing website, recycle-more.co.uk.

The database, more commonly known as the bank locator, has been designed to help tackle the 31million tonnes of waste (the same weight as 3.5 million double decker buses) that goes to landfill each year.

In addition to letting users know where they can recycle standard household items, T-Mobile’s application offers advice on how to recycle more unusual items such as mobile phones and Christmas trees. Users can also receive tips on how to recycle, links to useful recycling websites and can keep track of what they have recycled.

The Android version of the Recycle Guide allows users to demonstrate how committed they are to green causes by allowing them to pledge to
recycle certain amounts of waste and can then share their promises with friends.

Fiona Cameron, Corporate Responsibility Manager at T-Mobile said;

“Although national recycling rates are on the rise, thousands of potentially recyclable materials still get thrown away every day purely because people don’t know where the nearest recycling point is. We don’t often hear about the link between throwing waste in landfill and the contribution it makes to global warming, when in fact methane gas produced from landfill sites is a powerful greenhouse gas. Methane accounted for about eight percent of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2007.”

Valpak CEO Steve Gough said;

“By teaming up with T-Mobile we are able to make recycling information, that was previously only available online, accessible to more people via new technology. This provides so much more for the householder.”

According to reports, Orange along with T-Mobile, will be selling the iPhone 3G handset from September in a bid to boost sales. However, it is believed that only the older models will be available to other networks, with O2 exclusively holding the newer faster versions.

Coincidentally, this is happening around the same time that Apple’s two-year partnership with 02 ends. This of course, is still unconfirmed.

Up until now, customers have been forced to go with the over-subscribed network of 02 for their handset preference, but maybe now their is a light at the end of the tunnel, or maybe not! For those of you who signed up for the 18-month contract, you’re likely to find yourselves stuck with it until the end before you can upgrade.

T-Mobile and Nokia have announced a collaboration to open up an integrated marketplace for mobile content and Internet services.

T-Mobile and Nokia will together promote respective offerings for widgets, applications and other content to provide customers with easy access to a vast range of Internet services.

Mobile phone customers will be able to browse and download widgets from both the T-Mobile widget gallery and Nokia’s Ovi Store using T-Mobile’s web ‘n’ walk widget platform.

The integrated marketplace will be available in the third quarter of 2009 on mass market Nokia Series 40 platform based phones.

T-Mobile’s web’n'walk widget platform will be supported on Series 40 based feature mobile phones.

A Java based widget client makes it possible for both offerings to co-exist.

Rainer Deutschmann, Senior Vice President of Mobile Internet at T-Mobile International stated:

“T-Mobile and Nokia share a joint vision of offering an unparalleled mobile Internet experience to its customers. The co-existence of our widget gallery with Nokia’s Ovi Store ensures customers have access to an extensive range of interesting and relevant Internet services that they can customize according to their personal preferences.”

This co-operation takes the new web’n'walk widget platform into the mass market and opens up the long tail of applications and services from Nokia’s Ovi Store and T-Mobile’s widget gallery.

“Nokia Series 40 devices offer a great platform to deliver the Ovi Store experience and once the Ovi Store is available, you’ll be able to enjoy the most relevant content from the people and places that matter to you,” said Urpo Karjalainen, Senior Vice President, Operator Channels, at Nokia. “We are excited to be partnering with T-Mobile on the most compelling mobile Internet experience for mass market yet.”
