The all new X10 mobile phone was launched by Sony Ericsson today, but say that it will not go on sale until early next year. The X10 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile to utilise the Google Android operating system and will be the flagship model for the manufacturer.
Google’s Android has perked up a market that looked set to lose a lions share of business to Apple’s iPhone and manufacturers like Sony Ericsson have seen sales drop dramatically over the las twelve months due mainly to their lack of high end models to compete with the Apple offering.
The X10 will have a 4-inch-wide touch screen, use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor, and come with an 8.1 megapixel camera.
Bizzarely Sony’s current top model the Satio has only just gone on sale and the announcement of a bigger better mobile in the X10 for early next year will undoubtedley have an effect on the pre Christmas sales hopes for the company.
“I think some consumers will think about waiting until the first quarter to get their hands on the X10 rather than get a Satio for Christmas. It was a difficult call to make trying not to negatively impact products like the Satio, while at the same time announce something that will persuade consumers not to go to another brand,” said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.
